Patrick Makau of Kenya ran 2:03:38 today in the Berlin Marathon. Pretty fantastic stuff. I hate to knock The Emperor (Haile G.) but he shouldn’t pull out of every race that he’s not going to win. Obviously not winning is pretty foreign to him, but you can’t win ’em all, sometimes you just gotta suck it up and get on with it….at 27km Makau threw in a huge surge that Haile couldn’t cover and then all of sudden Haile stopped (he eventually started again, but then stopped again sometime later). There is a video of the race here: Makau's World Record Run in Berlin
Well, zoo run wasn’t my best day. I ended up 5th in 30:20. Can’t read too much into the finish time as the course sucks. More so the differential from the leaders (45 secs behind Reid) was pretty significant. But I knew given the training load going in and the travel that there was probably a 50/50 chance of having a good day. So, I’m not exactly in the best position in the world 3 weeks out from STWM. But I’m certainly not in the worst position in the world either. If there was any good that came out of the race it’s that I know I need to try to something different to get over the jet lag next time out (before STWM).
The sun is shining in Vancouver at this exact moment. Might not be many more of these moments for a good few months, so I’m going to get out for my second run of the day now.
Oh, and April was the first to answer all my the trivia questions about Forerunners marathon top 3 from my last post. Congrats!
